As you have arrived on our webpage, we hope that you have an interest in knowing more about Freemasonry. You have certainly taken a step in the right direction. Freemasonry in the United Kingdom has over 200,000 masonic members in nearly 8000 Lodges and Chapters around the country. Each Lodge or Chapter raises money at a local level, giving out of our own pockets and through social events shared with local, regional, and national charities. If this is aligned with your personality and you want to find the answer to common questions such as, what are masons? Who are masons? Please read on and explore this website. Explore the path and journey each of our young masons are on. This website is a chance for you to answer the question, 'what is a masonic lodge?', and explains why we are all brothers to each other.
St. Katharine's members have raised £25,000 so far.
Freemasonry can be such a diverse interest and has the potential for a lifelong affair that gives back continually. The beauty of how Freemasonry works is you only need to commit however much you want or can, in time and effort. Tasks and roles are never forced upon you, Freemasonry will never ask to be put above family, work or important interests.
A major part of your Masonic journey will be discovering that nearly every event, meeting and coming together of your fellow brethren generates funds for charity, both in the local community and larger charitable concerns.
Here at St. Katharine’s, we have welcomed members from many different professions over the years, including dentists, bankers, farmers, grocers, fishmongers, chemists, shoe retailers, corn merchants, policeman, firemen, butchers, plumbers, confectioners, bakers, printers, railwaymen, solicitors, builders, civil servants, stockbrokers, insurance brokers, metal dealers and many other trades. This vast variety will hopefully continue, untroubled by sectarianism, prejudice, or political consideration.
St. Katharine's Lodge was named after the local parish church on Canvey Island, However, the Lodge is spelt "Katharine's" and the church "Katherine's" though whether this was intentional it is unknown.
