Charity is the cornerstone of Freemasonry and members of St. Katharine’s Lodge No.5376 know the importance of assisting the very worthy national and local charities. Members organise social events, like our annual Charity Ball, presided over by the reigning Master of the Lodge. We also have a Burns Night at our February Meeting, Race and Quiz Nights and visits to local restaurants. Members have undertaken marathons, charity walks, cycle rides (in 2021 a team of 8 cycled to Suffolk and raised £11,500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital), sky dives and boot sales to name but a few, all to raise monies for various charities each with their own reason in doing so. Over the years at our annual events, we have raised funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, Farleigh’s Hospice, Breast Cancer Research UK, Epilepsy UK, British Heart Foundation and HARP. Not only have we done local evenings at various function suites, but we have also travelled over the country to destinations such as Bournemouth, Stratford upon Avon, and Bath and even further afield to Brugge in Belgium! Even the Covid pandemic did not stop us enjoying each other’s company as we still managed to organise Online Charity Events like Rum, Gin and Beer Tasting Evenings together with Online Poker Tournaments. Overall social events allow us to raise funds while enjoying ourselves and help those in need.
